Carly Fiorina, the former CEO of Hewlett-Packard who suspended her campaign for president last month, endorsed Ted Cruz at a rally in Miami, Fla., on Wednesday morning. Fiorina said she voted for Ted Cruz in the Virginia primary, and she encouraged conservatives to do the same, arguing that Cruz is the only candidate who will bring real conservative change.
Now there are some people in our party now saying you know, Donald Trump wouldn’t be so bad. “Ok, maybe he’s a liberal, maybe he’s a fraud, but you know at least he’s a deal-maker, we can make deals with him.” Here’s the thing: the truth is Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton are two sides of the same coin. They’re not going to reform the system — they are the system.
Fiorina also insisted that a contested convention is not the best way to defeat Donald Trump, who currently leads in the polls and in the delegate count. “We’re going to have to beat Donald Trump at the ballot box, and the only guy who can beat Donald Trump is Ted Cruz,” the former CEO declared.
“Carly speaks the truth with courage, doesn’t back down to the Washington powerbrokers, and terrifies Hillary and the Democrats. We are blessed to have her support, and together I am confident we will continue to unite conservatives,” Cruz declared in a campaign statement.
Fiorina recalled the thrill of seeing her own name on the ballot in Virginia, but said she then checked the box for Cruz. “You know people say all the time we are all known by the company we keep,” Fiorina later said. “I’ll tell you what. Ted Cruz should be known — is proud to be known — by the enemies he has made in the D.C. cartel.”
Fiorina’s endorsement comes after Cruz received support from action actor Chuck Norris, and following the Texas senator’s victory in the Idaho Republican primary Tuesday.
Trump, however, won three states: Mississippi, Michigan, and Hawaii. Currently, Trump stands 99 delegates ahead of Cruz, at 458 to Cruz’s 359. Either will need 1,237 to win the nomination.
